To better develop the construction of national first-class undergraduates’ education in geographic information science, especially to enrich professional teachers’ relevant experience in compiling textbooks, on 14th May 2023, from 2:00-6:00 pm, at the invitation of Associate Professor Yanyun Nian from the Department of Geography of Lanzhou University, Professor Naixia Mu, from College of Geodesy and Geomatics of Shandong University of Science and Technology, had an academic exchange in Conference Room 213, Qilian Hall, Chengguan Campus, and discussed with professional teachers of geographic information science. The main topics of the exchange were to discuss the construction of the first-class undergraduate program of Geographic information science in Lanzhou University, the revision of the 2023 edition of the talent training program of geographic information science, and the sharing of experience in compiling the teaching materials, such as professional textbooks. 10 teachers whose research interests are geographic information science and the representatives of graduate students attended the symposium.
At the symposium, Prof. Mu introduced the educational philosophy, the construction thoughts of national first-class undergraduates’ education, and the formulation and experience of the talent training plan in geographic information science major at Shandong University of Science and Technology, and made suggestions for the revision of talent training program of the geographic information science of Lanzhou University. Combined with the teaching and scientific research achievements in the past few years, especially in teaching materials compilation, competition awards, and scientific research direction, Prof. Mu had a heated detailed discussion with teachers from geographic information science.

The University Education Reform project of Shandong Province was supported by 1 key project, presided over more than 40 GIS horizontal software development projects, published more than 70 articles, and applied for more than 30 software Copyrights. Publication of the textbook ArcGIS10 GIS Course: From Beginner to Master (23 printing), ArcGISEngine GIS Development Tutorial (7 printing), CityEngine City 3D Modeling, ArcGIS Based Python Programming Tips (Translation) and other 4 books, One monograph, Research on Data Model and Data Integration Mechanism of Geographic Information System of Urban Pipe Network, and four textbooks, including ArcGIS Experimental Course and ArcGISPro Course, are being compiled. He won the CPGIS Outstanding Education Award (the fourth person in China to win this award), the Outstanding Contribution Award of Anhui University Students GIS Skills Competition (2009-2019), and the national university GIS Innovation Figure; He has won one surveying and mapping Science and Technology Progress Award, one geographic information Technology Progress award, and one national GIS Teaching Achievement Award in the second and third years.
