Expert Profile:
Cheng Tao, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor in the Department of Smart Agriculture, College of Agriculture, Nanjing Agricultural University. He is the Shennong Young Talent from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the Chief Expert of the National Key R&D Program of the 13th Five-Year Plan, a key member of the Innovative Research Group of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and a Distinguished Professor of Jiangsu. He graduated from Lanzhou University in 2003 with a bachelor's degree in GIS. He is currently the deputy director of the National Information Agriculture Engineering Technology Center, and his research interests are in remote sensing monitoring of agricultural conditions. He is also the deputy director of the Digital Agriculture Committee of the Chinese National Committee of the International Society for Digital Earth and the deputy editor-in-chief of SCI journals IEEE J-STARS and Precision Agriculture. In recent years, he has made significant progress in hyperspectral inversion of nutrient parameters and disease monitoring mechanisms and methods with rice and wheat as the main research objects, providing strong support for the development of intelligent diagnosis and regulation of crop growth and spectral sensors in China. He has published 37 SCI-indexed papers (including 11 RSE papers) as the first or corresponding author and won the honors of the Young Scientist Award of Chinese Crop Society, Outstanding Ph.D. Thesis Supervisor of Jiangsu Province, and Best Reviewer of RSE in 2021. The postgraduate full English course "Principles and Techniques of Agricultural Remote Sensing" he taught was selected as a brand course taught in English by the Ministry of Education for students coming to China.
