Expert profile:

Wang Xianyan, professor and vice president of the School of Geography and Ocean Sciences, Nanjing University. The 2015 National Natural Science Foundation of China Outstanding Youth Science Fund winner. In 2002, he received a bachelor's degree in geology from China University of Geosciences (Wuhan); in 2005 and 2008, he received a master's degree and a doctorate degree from the Institute of Earth Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences; in 2014, he received a doctorate degree from the Free University of the Netherlands. In 2008, he started to work in the School of Geography and Ocean Science, Nanjing University. Mainly carried out research work on the geomorphic evolution of the northeastern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the uplift process of the plateau reflected, the relationship between river deposition/erosion processes, neotectonic movements and climate change, and long-scale paleoclimate changes. Published more than 90 academic papers in GSA Bulletin, QSR, GPC and "Science China", and won the first prize of Natural Science of the Ministry of Education Award and Jiangsu Youth Science and Technology Award. He is also a member of the Physical Geography Professional Committee of the Chinese Geographical Society, a member of the Geomorphology and Quaternary Geology Professional Committee, a member of the Geomorphology and Environmental Evolution Professional Committee of the Chinese Quaternary Science Research Association, and a member of the Tectonic Geomorphology Professional Committee of the Chinese Seismological Society.
